Why brands switch to us

Agency, freelancer or in-house?

The honest answer is that each option wins somewhere. Here is the comparison we walk founders through, and when each choice is the right one.

Agency versus freelancer versus in-house development
FactorCodioo agencyFreelancerIn-house hire
CostFixed project price, from about $3,500 for a theme to $15,000+ for headlessLowest hourly rate, variable total as scope movesSalary plus overhead, the highest fixed cost per year

Pick an agency when

the project is mission critical, spans design and systems, or a launch date is fixed. You buy a team and a contract, not hours.

Pick a freelancer when

the scope is small and sharp, one template, one app, one fix, and you can flex the deadline around their availability.

Build in-house when

Shopify is your core competitive edge and you need daily iteration. Pair the hire with an agency for peak load and rare skills.

From audit to growth, in six steps

Every Codioo project runs the same spine, whether it is a five week theme or a five month replatform. Durations are typical, and every step ends with something you can click, read or sign off.

  1. Step 1

    Week 1

    Audit

We record a walkthrough of your current store: speed, conversion blockers, data health, integration gaps. You get the findings whether or not you hire us.

  2. Step 2

    Week 1 to 2

    Plan

Scope, fixed price, timeline and a named team. Every deliverable is written down, sequenced and priced before any work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Weeks 2 to 5

    Design

Wireframes then high fidelity layouts for the templates that carry revenue: home, collection, product, cart, checkout extensions.

  4. Step 4

    Weeks 4 to 10

    Build

Theme sections, apps and integrations built against the Shopify APIs, reviewed weekly on a staging store you can click through.

  5. Step 5

    1 to 2 weeks

    Launch

Data migration, 301 redirect map, QA across devices, and a go live runbook with rollback steps. Launch day is boring on purpose.

  6. Step 6

    Ongoing

    Grow

Care plan with monitoring, monthly speed and conversion checks, and a prioritised experiment backlog you approve.

Technology and integrations

We connect Shopify to the systems you already run

Orders, inventory, customers and prices, synced in near real time. We work with native connectors where they are enough, an iPaaS where speed matters more than control, and custom API builds where the business logic is yours.

Most stores arrive with two or three of these half connected: a nightly CSV to the warehouse, a manual stock check before campaigns, a finance copy paste at month end. The integration audit maps what actually happens in your business, then we fix the flows that cost you money first.

Who we build for

The industries where our playbooks are deepest

Shopify's platform is the same everywhere; the buying behaviour is not. These are the categories where we already know the failure points, the app traps and the conversion patterns that move numbers.

Fashion and apparel

Variant heavy catalogues, size and fit friction, seasonal drops, high returns. We build size guidance, lookbooks and returns flows that keep the second purchase.

Beauty and personal care

Subscription logic, bundles, regimens and shade matching. The buying decision is educational, so content and product live in one flow.

Home and living

Large format products, delivery surcharges, 3PL complexity and high touch merchandising. Baskets are big, so every friction point is expensive.

B2B and wholesale

Price lists per customer, quote flows, net terms and order minimums, on Shopify Plus with company accounts done properly.

Food, beverage and wellness

Regulated labels, age checks, recurring delivery windows and locality rules, handled without turning checkout into a questionnaire.

Consumer brands scaling up

The $1M to $50M stretch: replatforming off the starter stack, first integrations, first peak seasons that actually hurt if they go wrong.

Why brands choose Codioo

Codioo is a Shopify development agency for brands doing $500k to $50M a year that need a store built, rebuilt, extended or integrated. Projects ship in a median of nine weeks, from a $3,500 theme build to a $15,000+ headless storefront, always against a fixed quote set after a free audit. Every engagement ends with the client owning the code, the documentation and the training to use it.

Senior engineers only

No bench, no juniors learning on your store. The people you meet in the first call are the people who ship the work, and their names are in the contract.

Fixed quotes, written scope

The audit ends in a number that holds. Scope changes are agreed in writing before work starts, so the invoice never surprises anyone.

Numbers, not adjectives

Every claim on this site is tied to a baseline, a measurement window and a case study. Placeholders are marked until audited, because trust compounds.

What clients say

The replatform paid for itself inside two quarters. Codioo scoped honestly, held the timeline, and the new store converts better in month one than our old one did at peak.
Amelia HartHead of Ecommerce, Loom & Lane
The integration just works. Orders land in NetSuite in minutes, stock comes back accurate, and our peak season ran without a single oversell.

They are the rare agency that argues with you when you are wrong. The subscription app they built cut our churn and our support load at once.

FAQ

The ten questions we get asked most

Short answers first, detail if you want it. Anything not covered, the audit answers it for your store specifically.

How much does Shopify development cost?
A custom theme build starts around $3,500. Custom apps start around $4,500 and integrations around $4,000. A full Shopify Plus replatform starts around $9,000, and headless builds start around $15,000. Scope moves the price more than anything else: number of templates, integrations and data volume. The free audit ends with a fixed quote, not an estimate.
How long does a Shopify project take?
Theme builds take 4 to 6 weeks. Replatforms to Shopify Plus take 8 to 12 weeks, with data volume the main variable. Custom apps take 6 to 10 weeks and integrations 3 to 6 weeks. The median Codioo project ships in about nine weeks from kickoff to launch, on a timeline fixed in the contract.
How do I choose a Shopify development agency?
Ask for three things. First, case studies with numbers you can verify, not screenshots. Second, the name of the people who will do the work, senior engineers, not a rotating bench. Third, a written scope with a fixed price and a launch date. If an agency cannot show all three in the first call, keep looking.
Agency, freelancer or in-house developer?
Use a freelancer for small, sharp scope with a flexible deadline. Hire in-house when Shopify is your core edge and needs daily iteration. Use an agency for mission critical builds that span design, code and systems on a fixed date. Many brands pair one in-house owner with an agency team for peak load and rare skills.
When should I move to Shopify Plus?
Move when one of these is true: you exceed standard plan limits or staff seats, you need checkout customisation, Launchpad and Flow automation, you sell in multiple currencies or markets from one store, or your GMV makes the Plus fee cheaper than payment processing alone. Below roughly $1M a year, standard plans usually win.
Can you migrate my store without losing SEO?
Yes. We map every existing URL to its new one with a 301 redirect file, keep metadata and structured data on the new templates, and monitor indexation for 60 days after launch. Migration week includes a pre agreed cutover checklist so nothing moves without a rollback path. Our replatform benchmark is zero net loss of organic sessions.
Do you build custom apps and integrations?
Yes. Custom apps live in your Shopify admin, built on the Admin, Storefront and Functions APIs, and you own the code outright. Integrations cover NetSuite, ERPs, 3PLs, CRM and marketing platforms, connecting orders, inventory, customers and prices in near real time. See the app development and integration pages for scope and pricing.
Who owns the code after launch?
You do. Every repository, theme and app we build is transferred to your accounts at launch, with documentation and a handover call included. We work in your version control from day one, so nothing is hostage to a relationship ending. If you later move to another team, they inherit clean, documented code.
What support do you offer after launch?
Care plans start at $500 a month and include uptime and speed monitoring, a monthly performance report, a prioritised experiment backlog and agreed response times for issues. Small fixes ship inside the plan. Larger ideas get scoped and quoted separately. You can pause or cancel with 30 days notice.
What results have similar brands seen?
Across our recent project benchmarks, stores we rebuilt show a median conversion lift of 23% and a median LCP reduction of 38%, with the median project shipping in 9 weeks. Every number links to a named case study with its baseline and measurement window.
